DIY At Home Spa: Herbal Facial Steam

Give some love to the gorgeous herbal teas hiding in the back of your cupboard with an
at home spa, herbal facial steam!

Everyone’s got that special corner in the back of their kitchen cupboard, the one where our renegade herbal tea bags live. They sit there, day after day, patiently waiting to be infused into a nourishing cup on a chilly afternoon. But somehow, they are forgotten about, and we never reach for them when it’s tea time. They tend to pile up, don’t they? I know I have a whole tin of them.

Well, I’m here to tell you there is a use for those herbal teas yet!
A luxury, at home spa, herbal facial steam.
An herbal facial steam is one of the easiest, most relaxing ways to sooth and cleanse our skin. It helps to open up the pores, eliminate ugly toxins, and increase the skin's blood circulation. It is a deeply hydrating way to plump up and soften those wrinkles.
So grab that chamomile tea bag, turn the kettle on and let's go to the spa.

1. To start, pour freshly boiled water into a large, heat-safe bowl.
2. Add your herbal tea, and let the infusion steep for a few minutes.

Tea Lover Tip: Though you can add the bag, I highly recommend opening it up and pouring the
loose tea leaves in so you can see their beautiful shapes and colours. This is a great way to get
to know your herbs and begin learning about what they have to offer!

3. Put the bowl on a table where you can comfortably lean over with your face about 10
inches above the bowl.
4. Cover your head and the bowl with a towel, to create a tent to hold the steam in.
5. Now just close your eyes, focus on your breath, and relax...
6. Bliss.

You can do this for as long or as little as you like, but usually about 5-10 minutes is nice and beneficial. If you feel like the steam is too hot, then just let it cool for a little longer before creating your tent.
After you feel sufficiently steamed, gently pat dry and follow up with your favourite moisturizer or face serum. You can even use an oil if you want an extra boost of hydration. You really want to make sure you lock in all that goodness and moisture. Any carrier oil will do, I find sweet almond is nice, or even olive oil. I tend to recommend a face serum because it has multiple ways of holding moisture into the skin.

Our Rosehip and Calendula Face Serum would be the perfect way to end your at home herbal facial steam. And of course, you can’t forget curling up with your favourite book!

Here are some good (and commonly relegated) herbal teas to use:
Chamomile, Peppermint, Rose, Fennel, Lemon, or Lavender. You can even have some fun with
combining a few if you’d like!

Happy herbal facial steaming… enjoy your at home spa experience!
